A service for Duane (Bill) William Brummond of Truman will be held at Truman Church of Christ on Saturday, Nov. 30, at 2 p.m., with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Lakeside Cemetery in Fairmont. Duane passed away peacefully at age 96 in Utah on Sunday, Nov. 24, 2024.
Duane William Brummond was born Sept. 3, 1928, to Robert and Hazel (Betts) Brummond in rural Granada, Center Creek Township. He attended school in Granada until the 11th grade, then as a senior he moved to Truman, where he graduated from Truman High School, Class of 1946.
Duane married Joyce Reinke on June 24, 1951, at Truman Church of Christ. After their marriage, Duane and Joyce lived one mile west of Truman until 1953 when they moved to the Reinke farm on Perch Lake, southwest of Truman. The farm was later recognized as a Century Farm in 1992. Duane farmed and milked cows throughout the 1950s and 1960s, then began selling milking equipment and livestock equipment. His business spanned over 45 years, retiring at age 82.
Duane’s faith was very important to him and he shared that faith with his family and all those around him. He was a very active member of the Truman Church of Christ. He graciously served as an elder, Sunday school teacher, Vacation Bible School teacher and was an avid prayer warrior. He was a member of the Truman Lion’s Club.
To add supplemental heat to the old Reinke farmhouse, Duane continued to cut and split wood until the age of 92. He enjoyed playing Bridge, Five Hundred and Cribbage with friends and family and always loved a big bowl of ice cream.
In February 1999 his wife, Joyce, passed away. Duane continued to be active and lived on the farm until age 95. In August 2023, he suffered a stroke and moved to Eden, Utah, to live with his daughter, Elaine.
Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Wayne (Marlys) Brummond of Fairmont and Elaine (Ramesh) Krishnan of Eden, Utah; son-in-law, Bill Roehrs of San Antonio, Texas; sister, Helen Brummond of Fairmont; sister-in-law, Joyce Brummond of Fargo, N.D.; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren.
Duane was preceded in death by his wife Joyce; daughter, Ruth Roehrs (2021); parents, Robert and Hazel Brummond; parents-in-law, Herbert and Minnie (Brownlee) Reinke; and brother, Robert Junior Brummond.
Memorials may be sent to Truman Church of Christ.
