Janice Williamson
Janice Williamson, 91, of Monticello passed away at St. Benedict’s Community Sept. 19, 2024. She was born Dec. 28,1932, to George and Kealla Carlson in Blairstown, Iowa. After the passing of her father when she was just 13, Jan and her mother moved to Albert Lea, where she began to carve her path in life.
A dedicated educator, Jan shared her passion for learning by teaching in Alaska and Germany before settling in Truman. It was there she met her husband, Lowell, and together they raised six children, instilling in them the same love for adventure and travel that defined her life.
Jan was a vibrant member of her community, serving Trinity Lutheran Church, the school board and various other committees. She was known for her love of acting and her involvement in numerous community theater productions. Her infectious spirit and zest for life resonated with all who knew her and her motto, “Growing old is mandatory, growing up is optional,” perfectly encapsulated her youthful outlook.
Jan is survived by her children, Tracy (Alan) Ratike, Kent, Derek, Brook (Julie) Williamson; daughter-in-law, Lynn Bebeau; 11 grandchildren, Henry and Ella Williamson, Stephen, Toni and Brittany Klosterman, Taylor, Carter and Alexis Ratike, Taro Selnes, Haley Williamson and Hannah Williamson; and three great-grandchildren, Gage, Luna and Cameron. So many have gone before her, but she was especially eager to join her husband Lowell, son Mark and daughter Heather. Her warmth, humor and boundless energy will be dearly missed, but forever remembered.
The family will honor her wishes by holding a private celebration of her life.
