Lorenz Mau
Dad received and spread his wings to leave us during the night of June 25, 2024. Waiting to greet him was Luella, his wife of 56 years; brother, Leonard of 62 years, and his wife, Beverly; also, infant brother, Victor; and his parents, George and Adeline (Reinke) Mau. He was born on a small farm in Waverly Township, on Dec. 26, 1937. He was baptized in Galena Lutheran Church and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church-Willow Creek in 1952.
Dad graduated from Welcome Memorial High School in 1956. He served in the Army National Guard Reserves from October 1955 through October 1962. He married Luella (Hohenstein) Mau, Aug. 23, 1959. He worked for Kark’s Milling of Vernon Center and started his welding career at Northstar Concrete. He eventually went to work at home on the family farm and began his own welding and machine shop (Mau’s Repair). He also drove school bus from 1977 through 1991 for Winnebago Public Schools. Dad loved fishing in the North Woods and attending and exhibiting at antique power and threshing shows.
Left behind to cherish his memories includes his sister, Lorraine (Paul) Kleindl; his children, Gary (Karen) Mau and Deborah (Jim) Skaff and granddaughters, Melissa, Michelle and Megan Skaff. He had several nieces and nephews as well.
A funeral service will be held July 25 at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Interment will be at the Vernon Center Cemetery with military honors. Happy trails, Dad.
