Velma Miller

February 07, 2024

Velma Lillian Louise (Baade) Miller was born on April 7, 1932, and went to her heavenly home on Feb. 1, 2024. There will be a memorial service at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 7, at the Church of Christ in Truman with the Rev. Merrill Davis officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30–11 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be at Ridgelawn Cemetery in Truman.

Velma was born in Sanford County, S.D., to Lester and Edna (Marsden) Baade in the same house that her father was born in. During the Great Depression at the age of four she moved to Minnesota. She graduated from Truman High School in 1950. She met her husband, Harold Miller, while rollerskating and they married on Feb. 11, 1956, enjoying 67 years of marriage before his passing.

Velma worked very hard on the farm and raising her family. She loved gardening and sharing the fruits of her labor as well as doing handiwork — especially crocheting. She had a huge heart and many experienced the impression she left. Her entire family knows the life breath of the family flows from her.

She is survived by her children, Joyce Deeds, David (Belinda) Miller, Kenneth (Julie) Miller, Susanne (Tim) McKay, Ross Miller and William Miller; grandchildren, Gina, Andrew, Craig, Bridget, Joseph, Brandon, James, Steven, Micheal and Tiffany; great-grandchildren, Alaric, McKaleigh, Greyson, Adeline, Zane, Zoey, Emma, Kodi, Willa, Andi, Knox, Miles, Norah, Chase, Darwin, Ezra, Cameron, Kadyn, Ely, Dakota, Wyatt, Joshua, Savannah, Cooper, Awndre, Izaiah, Marshall, Zachary, Logan, Ciara, Natalie, Austin, Mackena and Casen; great-great-grandchild, King; and her brother, Omar Baade.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Harold; grandson, Roger Deeds; siblings, Dalaine (Shirley) Baade, Delois (Clayton) Sorgatz and Lovilla (Lawrence) Hartmann; and sister-in-law, Jane Baade.
