Independent School District #458 Board Meeting
September 18, 2023 5:30 PM
I. Call to Order: 5:35
Roll Call: Present — Mike Pfeil, Kenna Krahmer, Maria Haler and Jeff Nauman; Absent — Paula Heckman and James Farnum
Staff Present: Lisa Shellum, Kayla Anderson, and Eva Sonnabend.
II. Approval of Agenda:
Motioned by Nauman and seconded by Haler to approve/amend the September 18, 2023 Board Agenda. Motion passed on a 4-0 vote.
III. Approval of Prior Meeting Minutes:
Motioned by Krahmer and seconded by Nauman to approve the August 21, 2023 regular meeting minutes. Motion passed on a 4-0 vote.
IV. Presentation of Bills/Finance (consent agenda)
Motioned by Krahmer and seconded by Haler to approve the September 2023 bills as presented in check register and wire transfer information. Motion passed on a 4-0 vote.

VIII. Action Items
A. Levy Certification
A motion was offered by Nauman, seconded by Krahmer, to approve and certify the proposed 2023-24 Payable Levy at Maximum. Motion passed on a 4-0 vote.
B. Truth in Taxation
A motion was offered by Krahmer, second by Nauman, to set the following date for the 2023-24 payable levy Truth and Taxation meeting date. December 18, 2023 at 6:01 PM Motion passed on a 4-0 vote.
C. IOWA
A motion was offered by Haler, second by Krahmer, to approve Lisa Shellum as the IOWA for ISD 0458 for 2023-24 school year. Motion passed on a 4-0 vote.
D. Combined Polling Place
A motion was offered by Krahmer, second by Nauman, to approve the resolution to set the Truman Public School as the combined polling place for any upcoming elections in Calendar year 2024. Motion passed on a 4-0 vote. Pfeil-yes, Krahmer-yes, Haler-yes, and Nauman-yes.
E. Snow Removal
A motion was offered by Krahmer, and second by Nauman, to approve the bid for the following snow removal areas for the 2023-24 school year. Motion passed on a 4-0 vote.
Sidewalks - Bidder: Kevin Greier Amount: $60.00/hour
Parking Lot Areas Bidder: Kevin Greier Amount: $100.00/hour
F. Hires
A motion was offered by Nauman, and second by Krahmer, to approve the hirings of Brande Deuel as full-time teacher - BA - Step 2 and Rachel Soberg as Custodial - up to 5 hours per day. Step 1, $16.25 per hour. Motion passed on a 4-0 vote.
G. South Central Service Cooperative
A motion was offered by Krahmer, and second by Haler, to approve the agreement with South Central Service Cooperative for vision, audiology, and orientation and mobility services for the 2023-24 school year. Motion passed on a 4-0 vote.
H. Dishwasher for Food Service
A motion was offered by Haler, and second by Nauman, to approve the bid from Reinhart for the replacement of the kitchen dishwasher, $4,500.00. Motion passed on a 4-0 vote.
VIIII. Reports
A. Superintendent/Principal reported on 3 new foreign exchange students and new student from China for possible ELL services.
IX. Adjournment
Motioned by Krahmer, and seconded by Nauman, to adjourn at 6:44 PM.

I. Call to Order: 5:30 PM
Roll Call: Present — Mike Pfeil, Kenna Krahmer, James Farnum, Maria Haler and Jeff Nauman; Absent — Paula Kester

II. Approval of Agenda:
A motion was offered by Kenna K. seconded by Jeff N., and carried to approve the September 25, 2023 Board workshop agenda
III. Information:
A. Updates from Board Chair – Set items for discussion
Topics: Future planning for the district: With the district growing and becoming more financially independent things that should be discussed include: Looking at Administrative duties and possibly adding administrative. After a long discussion it was determined that Lisa Shellum, Kayla Anderson, Julie Brudelie, Allison Greier and Cynthia Celander put together a list of duties that they perform during the year and bring back to a meeting scheduled for November 27th. At this time the board can look at how duties are separated and address any concerns going forward.
B. Updates from board members – Set items for discussion
In other discussion, the board discussed Lisa inviting a staff member to talk about their program to each of the board meetings so that the board becomes informed on all of the programs that go on during the school day at TPS.
The board discussed special education and how Allison Greier and Lisa Shellum divided up duties as well as thoughts for the future on working with a cooperative or education district.
There was a discussion regarding the concession stand and the board toured to that area and had a discussion about remodeling the space.
The next meeting is scheduled for November 27th at 5:30 p.m.
