Bud Berhow

A funeral service for Arlen “Bud” E. Berhow, 83, of Truman, will be 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 6, at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont. Visitation will be 5–8 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 5, at Lakeview Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. Burial will be in Fairview Memorial Park in Fairmont. Bud passed away on Wednesday evening, Aug. 30, 2023, at his home in Truman. Arlen “Bud” Eugene Berhow was born on Oct. 3, 1939, in Swea City, Iowa. He was the son of Caryl and Florence (Baker) Berhow. Bud attended school in Grand Meadow. He worked as a welder for Rode Manufacturing in Truman for 28 years.

On Nov. 16, 1958, Bud was united in marriage to ShirleyAnn Baarts. The couple made their home in the Fairmont and Truman area and were blessed with four children, Juanita, Keith, Bryan and Brad. Bud and ShirleyAnn shared over 35 years together before ShirleyAnn passed away in 1993. Bud later met Nancy Jo Garrison. They made their home in Truman where Bud worked side by side with Nancy Jo in the catering business.

Bud attended Truman Church of Christ. Bud and Nancy Jo enjoyed “old time” dancing in Pemberton. Bud’s love of music was evident as he performed with his accordion for many local functions. He also loved spending time riding his motorcycle as well as at the lake, whether it was going for a cruise on the pontoon or casting a line while fishing.

Left to cherish his memory include his significant other, Nancy Jo Garrison; children, Juanita Heckman, Keith (Peggi) Berhow, Bryan (Julie) Berhow and Brad (Teresa) Berhow; grandchildren, Michael (Stacy) Heckman, Kayleen (Cory) Fitzloff, Dustin (Lynn) Heckman, Joshua (Alexis) Berhow, Kayla (Joshua) Federiuk, Brianna (Colin) Feuster, Shawna Berhow, Daniel Berhow, Steven (Tyra) Berhow, ChaseLee (Madison) Berhow, Matthew (Erica) Berhow, RaeAnn (Darin) Wiederhoeft, Stacy (Dan) Christianson and Hattie (Chris) Rollag; 28 great-grandchildren with one more on the way; two great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Ardis Weiseman, Carol (Rodney) Holt, Roger (Sue) Berhow, Darwin (Jackie) Berhow, Kenny (Vickie) Berhow, Arlo (Donna) Berhow, Gary (Julie) Berhow and Mickie Berhow; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Along with his parents, Caryl and Florence Berhow, Bud was preceded in death by his wife, ShirleyAnn Berhow; siblings, Duane, Richard “Dick,” Kathy and unborn little boy; granddaughter, Yvonne; brothers-in-law, Merle Dean (Lorna) Baarts and Sam Weiseman; sister-in-law in infancy, Norine; and parents-in-law, Wilhelm and Irene Baarts.

Memorials are preferred to Truman Church of Christ, Truman Community Building renovation or to United Hands Hospice.
