Engold Linda Diel, 79, of St. James passed away Monday, June 26, 2023, at Good Samaritan Society in Mountain Lake. Funeral service was Monday, July 3, at St. John’s Lutheran Church-Willow Creek, rural Vernon Center, with the Rev. John Bennett officiating. Visitation was 9–11 a.m. followed by the funeral at 11 a.m. Burial was at St. John’s Cemetery-Willow Creek. Online condolences can be left at www.zahariafamilyfuneral.com.

Engold was born on July 25, 1943, to Wilhelm and Ana (Blume) Diel in Truman. She attended school at St. John’s-Willow Creek and graduated from Amboy High School in 1961. She married Art Dougherty, Sr. on May 5, 1962. They later divorced. She worked various jobs in her life from Tony Downs, Stokely Van Kamp, Norman’s Café, Electro Craft, the American Legion in Winnebago and House of Print. Engold was also a loving and caring mother and grandmother. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church-Willow Creek. Some of her hobbies included planting and canning vegetables from her garden, crocheting afghans and playing board games like Aggravation and Rummikub. But most of all, she absolutely loved reading the Bible. She also enjoyed cooking, baking for her family and friends like her macaroni salad, apple bars and her homemade pumpkin pies. She was kind and loving to all who knew her.

She is survived by her children, Art, Jr. (Brenda) Dougherty of St. James, Wayne Dougherty of Frost and RuthAnn Dougherty (special friend Ron) of Lake Crystal; sister-in-law, Doris Diel of Amboy; 19 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Engold was preceded in death by her parents; infant brother, Carl; brothers, Babe, Herb and Paul; sisters, Sylvia and Ann; grandsons, Wayne Paul “Trucker” and Kurtis Dougherty; son, Eugene Dougherty; and great-grandson, William Daniel Edwards.
