January 21, 2026
A service for Carl Herman Vogt, 95, of Truman, who passed away on Jan. 14, 2026, at his son’s home in Barnum, will be held Saturday Jan. 24, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Truman beginning at 11 a.m. A time for visitation will begin at 10 a.m. before the service at the church.
Carl Herman Vogt was born on April 1, 1930, to Edward and Hulda Vogt in South Branch. He attended St. John’s Lutheran School-South Branch and St. James High School in St. James. Carl served his country in the U.S. Army from 1953–1955. Upon his return from the military, he married the love of his life, Marjorie Bernadine Sternberg, on March 7, 1959, at St. John’s Lutheran Church-South Branch and then began a long loving life together.
Carl was a contractor and owner of Vogt Construction and Millwork in Truman for over 40 years. He built many homes and businesses in southern Minnesota. His hard work and attention to detail is still seen in Truman today.
Carl loved restoring and piloting small aircraft and he and Marjorie enjoyed their special koi pond in their yard. He loved attending the many activities of his children and then watching the grandchildren during their growing up years. He also volunteered at the local café.
Carl’s legacy was his commitment to raising his family in the Christian faith. He was dedicated to serving his church and the parochial school and the Truman community. He truly was a faithful servant.
Carl is survived by his children; Suzanne (John) Burman, Stephen (Lauren) Vogt, Timothy (Molly) Vogt, Bradley (Jackie) Vogt and Eric (Pam) Vogt; grandchildren, Adam (Meryl) Burman, Thomas (Mimi) Burman, Matt (Lauren) Vogt, Jacob (Sommer) Vogt, Abby Vogt, Alex Vogt, Sam Vogt, Grace Vogt, Bill Vogt, Rachel (Sam) Lee, Caleb (Nina) Vogt, Seth (Madelyn) Vogt, Paul (Danielle) Vogt, Timothy Vogt, Esther Vogt, Rebekah Vogt, Sierra Vogt, Noah Vogt, Ella Vogt and Olivia Vogt; great grandchildren, Aksel, Hannah, Noah, Jonathan, James, Avery, and two girls expected this spring; siblings, Isabelle Lindskoog, Nevada, and David (Marilyn) Vogt; brother-in-law, Kent Kloepping; and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife Marjorie in February of 2022; sisters, Gertrude, Charlotte, Margaret and AnnaLee; and brother, Winfred.
Blessed be the memory of Carl.
In lieu of flowers, please consider giving to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and/or school as Carl was a huge supporter of both.
