Susie Toothaker

A celebration of life service for Susie E. Toothaker, 75, of Fairmont will be 3 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 17, at Truman Church of Christ. Burial will be held at Horicon Cemetery in rural Truman. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 1–3 p.m. at the church in Truman. Susie passed away on Saturday morning, Aug. 9, 2025, at her home in rural Fairmont. Memorials are preferred to the Truman Church of Christ and UHD Hospice. The Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.
Susan Elayne (Manteufel) Toothaker was born on Oct. 21, 1949, to Elmer and Edith (Apelgren) Manteufel in Fairmont. She graduated from Truman High School in 1967.
 Susie was united in marriage to John Toothaker on Feb. 5, 1977, at Truman Church of Christ. After their marriage, John and Susie made their home on the Toothaker homestead where they raised two sons, Weston and Cody.
Susie was a member of Truman Church of Christ and helped decorate the church for every holiday. She loved attending local sporting events in the area and recently watching her grandchildren play in their sports and activities. In her younger years, Susie was a cheerleader and a majorette in high school and she never stopped cheering. She loved swimming and you could often find Susie in the kitchen where she enjoyed cooking and baking. The Martin County Fair was a highlight for Susie that she looked forward to every year and you could always find her there playing bingo. She loved holidays, especially Christmas.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 48 years, John Toothaker of Fairmont; sons, Weston (Kim) Toothaker of Fairmont and Cody (Angie) Toothaker of Fairmont; grandchildren, Addison, Kylie, Alexis and Krew Toothaker and Easton Toothaker; brothers, Royal “Chub” (Karon) Rhode of Truman and Tom Manteufel of Overland Park, Kan.; sister, Coral Nyquist of Janesville, Wis.; sister-in-law, Catherine McAlister of Fairmont; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Edith Manteufel; parents-in-law, Herb and Ruth Toothaker; brothers-in-law, James Toothaker and Leroy Nyquist; and sister-in-law, Berdeen Manteufel.
