Ronald Henry Schultz, 87, of Truman passed away Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at Truman Senior Living. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday April 23, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Truman with the Rev. Timothy Chase officiating. A time for visitation will be held 5–7 p.m. on Tuesday at Zaharia Family Funeral Home in Truman and one hour prior to the service at church. Burial will take place at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, Truman. Memorials are preferred to St. Paul’s Lutheran School and Martin Luther High School.
Ronald Henry Schultz was born on Sept. 4, 1937, at the Truman hospital to Henry and Lenora (Pries) Schultz. He became a child of God through baptism at one day of age and was confirmed on Easter Sunday, March 25, 1951, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Truman. He attended St. Paul’s Lutheran School in Truman through eighth grade. He attended Dr. Martin Luther High School in New Ulm for two years, then transferred to the Southern School of Agriculture in Waseca to pursue his interest in farming. After graduating in 1955 he farmed with his dad. Ronald married Berniece Borkenhagen on Nov. 16, 1958, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Fieldon. Together, they raised their three children on the family farm in rural Truman.
Ronald was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, active in the congregation and its school. In the 1960s he started flying, becoming a licensed pilot and also earned his instrument rating. He was an avid pilot until health issues grounded him. He was also a member of the Nashville Westford Farm Bureau for years.
Berniece died Jan. 7, 2023. Ronald continued to live at home on the farm until he needed more care. He moved into Truman Senior Living in April 2024.
Ronald is survived by his children, Sonia (Daryl) Hoewisch, Faith (Robert) Sitzman and Timothy (Lynn) Schultz; grandchildren, Danica (Chris Hayden) Schieber, Andrew (Beth) Schieber, Steven (Rachael) Sitzman, Nathan (Alisha) Schieber, Matthew (Celeste) Sitzman and Daric (Katy) Sitzman; great-grandchildren, Alex, Roland and Juliet Stith, Ariel, Judah, and Zion Schieber, Winnifred, Lew and Reginald Sitzman; Christi, Gabriel, Elijah and Caspian Schieber; and Malcolm and Eleanor Sitzman; sisters, Janet Tyrrell, Arlys Rullman and Mary (Darrell) Golnitz; sister-in-law, Margie Kroells; and nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws, Alvin and Lorena Borkenhagen; great-great-grandson, Rhett Garner; sister-in-law, Doris Mogensen; and brothers-in-law Cap Rullman, Donald Kroells and George Tyrrell.
