A celebration of life service for Craig “Root” Deane Carrigan, 72, of rural Granada will be 12:30 p.m. Monday, March 31,  at St. James Lutheran Church in Northrop. A private family visitation will be from 10–11 a.m. with friends invited to join the family for a public visitation prior to the time of service from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. A private family burial will be held at a later date in St. James Lutheran Cemetery in Rutland Township. Craig passed away Thursday, March 20, 2025, at his home in rural Granada. Craig D. Carrigan was born Jan. 11, 1953, to Victor and Lucille (Free) Carrigan at Fairmont. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fairmont. Craig attended St. Paul Lutheran School and graduated from Fairmont High School in 1971. He attended Brainerd Vocational School, Brainerd, for two years with a major in landscape technology.
On July 21, 1978, Craig married Marilyn Sue Belshan at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in rural Myrtle. He owned and operated Green Thumb Landscaping at their rural home for 32 years. Craig loved working outside and beautifying for his many customers. In later years he enjoyed driving around the area pointing out the many jobs where he had planted trees, shrubs, pruned and maintained lawns. He also loved seeing and visiting with his friends and former customers on his daily trips to Fairmont. Craig also loved attending his two granddaughters’ activities. He loved to spoil the birds and squirrels with many treats.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 46 years, Marilyn Carrigan of rural Granada; son, Tyrone Carrigan of Mankato; daughter, Sarah Martinson of Fairmont; two granddaughters, Bailey Martinson of St. Paul and Morgan Martinson of Fairmont; and their father, Mike Martinson; siblings, Kathy Hantelman of St. Peter, Curtis (Val) Carrigan of Fairmont, Cherice (Tom) Kuseske of Lake Elmo, Corliss (Mel) Bremer of Tower and Kevin Carrigan of St. Paul; and many nieces and nephews.
Craig was preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Lucille Carrigan; brother, Kent Carrigan; infant sister, Kim Marie Carrigan; and brother-in-law, Charles Hantelman.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be given in Craig’s name to St. James Lutheran Church and School of Northrop.
